Podcast Survey

In order to find out our target audiences' preferences we made a survey with Google Forms. We shared the survey to grade 10, 11 and 12 students from Regents Secondary School and successfully gathered 55 responses.

The survey has gave us ideas about what type of podcast the students from our school prefer. This has helps us to target audiences effectively and to create a podcast that is able to fulfill our audiences' demands.

Here are the results of our survey:

A large ratio of the students consume podcast/radio every few weeks or every few months and most of them consume crime related media.

A bigger group of the students prefer old and heavy crime cases. They also prefer narrator based podcast. However after other researched we settled on a mix of narrator and narrative based podcast. Since most of them prefer heavy crime cases we chose cover 2 murder cases.

Through our 9th question we found out that most of the students are fine with graphic contents as most of them answered 3 or more. The students also prefer true crime compared to fictional. This is why we decided to make a true crime podcast.

More than 50% of the students favors western crime and more than 3/4 of them prefer episodic podcast episodes. Therefore we decided to cover a western crime case.

Lastly, we also asked their favorite crime cases to give us an idea of what kind of cases they like.

Conclusion: After analyzing the survey summary we concluded that students from grade 10-12 are actively consuming podcast/radio and also crime related media. They prefer heavy and old western true crime cases with a medium to high amount of graphic contents.

With these informations we chose 2 of the students' favorite crime cases that fits the preference of most students, The Black Dahlia and Jack the Ripper.
